St. Louis Mom Youth Sports Guide | Hockey
Things to Consider Before Signing Up for Hockey
- If your child is new to hockey, find a Learn to Skate / Learn to Play program to try it out before joining a team.
- Hockey is an expensive sport, both due to facility rentals and the equipment. Buy used equipment when you can.
- Skates are usually ½ to a full size larger than shoe size. Skate laces get tighter as you go up for ankle support.
- Little ones need a lot of help getting their gear on – arrive early.
- Practice times are all over the board, and scheduled when the ice is available.
- Travel teams are more expensive than developmental teams due to tournament costs, extra practices, and more ice time.
