Things to Consider before Signing Up for Martial Arts Classes:
- Determine your purpose for pursuing martial arts for your child. Do you want them to learn discipline and structure? Are you seeking self defense training? Or are you looking to find a new sport / activity for the sake of fitness?
- While the type of martial arts you choose is important, so is the training and experience of the instructor. Do your research, and take advantage of trial classes to find an instructor who works well with your child.
- Inquire about extra costs and annual contracts. Is there a fee for testing and belts? What is the true cost over the course of a year of martial arts training?
- Practice, practice, practice. As with any sport, if you want your child to do well, build time into their schedule for practicing at home.
