Must See Midwest Fall Festival: Legends & Lanterns

Cobblestone streets. Glowing pumpkins. Legendary characters … THIS is one of our family’s favorite Midwest festivals!

Legends & Lanterns in historic St. Charles, MO returns during October weekends (starting Saturday, 10/11). Here you’ll find so many activities, including:

  • interactive characters sharing history, folklore, and cultural traditions
  • storytelling & musical performances
  • scavenger hunt opportunities (in years past, they’ve had cute passport stamp stations)
  • festive Halloween decorations adorning so many shops
  • sugar skull transformations by professional make-up artists

Know Before You Go:

  1. This Halloween festival is FREE! It takes place along Main Street in historic St. Charles.
  2. You just never know who you’ll bump into since the characters move around (and may not be present each day)- but I always look forward to seeing the Ghouling Stones. Living statues? Rockstar vocalists? They’re hilarious and truly captivating! You can find them at Forget-Me-Not Plaza (100 Block of South Main).
  3. Parades through the Hallmark streets of Historic Main are so much fun! They have an opening parade before the festival starts and a closing ceremony each day.
  4. Dessert on Main Street is always a good idea! Stop in for a treat at Sugar & Slice or Grandma’s Cookies.
  5. Mark your calendar for Pumpkin Glow nights on 10/24 and 10/25- it’s truly magical! Main Street is lined with carved pumpkins. It can get busy- especially on these special nights. Pack your patience when looking for parking.

Here’s the schedule for 2025:

  • Sat, 10/11: 11 am to 6 pm
  • Sun, 10/12: 12 pm to 5 pm
  • Sat, 10/18: 11 am to 6 pm
  • Sun, 10/19: 12 pm to 5 pm
  • Fri, 10/24: 5 pm to 8 pm (Pumpkin Glow Night)
  • Sat, 10/25: 11 am to 8 pm (Pumpkin Glow Night)
  • Sun, 10/26: 12 pm to 5 pm
