Summer was a blast, but bring on fall!  Cooler temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes, boots, fall foliage, outdoor fun….who else is ready?!  Fall is the perfect time to get outdoors and work on those health and fitness goals.

Here are some of my top tips and reasons why fall is the best time to get active and healthy!

1.  Cooler Weather

With the temperatures cooling down to an enjoyable level, fall is the perfect time to get outside and get active.  The leaves are changing and the scenery is gorgeous which makes the perfect backdrop to get outside for a walk or run.  Even gardening or taking the dog for a walk are great ways to stay active and enjoy the outdoors!

2. Fall Activities

With Halloween and the holidays around the corner, get ready to fill your calendar with outdoor activities and fun for the kiddos.  Get outside and enjoy the fun right alongside them!  Apple picking, pumpkin patches, outdoor bike rides … there is something to choose from every weekend, so get outside and stay active!

3. Enjoy Fresh Produce

In season fresh produce during the fall is the best!  Be sure to stock up on the healthy, whole food produce to make healthy meals for the whole family!  Fresh pumpkin, sweet potatoes and squash are a few of my favorites. Use them to make soups, casseroles or delicious crock pot meals that the whole family will enjoy!

4. Daylight Savings

As the days get shorter and the daylight fades, its easy to fall into the comfort of cuddling up on the couch and not making exercise a priority.  Be sure to schedule time to get your sweat on, even if that means 15-20 minutes of working out at home when you are able to squeeze it in.  Those short bursts of exercise will be worth it throughout the winter months!  Find an accountability partner to workout with or text your workouts to in order to keep you on track!

5.  Sign up for a Race

Fall into fitness and run or walk a race!  There are so many fun ones to choose from and many include the entire family!  Sign up for a race as a family and enjoy completing the race together.  Not only does it show your kiddos the importance of being healthy, it gives you all a reason to get outside and enjoy exercise together!

6. Prep for Winter

If you stay active in the fall and make exercise a priority, it will become a habit and much easier to keep up during those cold winter months.  When the temps are below freezing and the snow is falling outside, let’s be honest … it is much easier to snuggle up in bed and push your exercise habits to the side.  Be proactive by making your health a priority now so that you will continue those good healthy habits all winter long.

7. New Years Goals

How do you want to end 2021 and start the new year?  Make goals for year end so that you are working towards them starting now.  Do you want to ring in 2022 wishing you would have started sooner?  Get a jump start and start working on those goals now!

Happy Fall!

  1. Yes! It is definitely way too pretty to stay inside. And, the most important thing of all – who knows how long fall weather will actually be here??? We need to take advantage of the gorgeous days while they are here!
