Managing food allergies can feel overwhelming, but having a solid routine or action plan—and the right support—can make the experience much more manageable.
A few important tips to keep in mind:
-
Always carry your emergency medication. Take it everywhere, even to non-food activities. You never know when you might encounter your allergen.
-
Read every ingredient label. Most packaged foods list common allergens. If you’re unsure about an ingredient, don’t take the risk.
-
Know related allergens. Some allergies can be linked. For example, a peanut allergy may also be associated with sensitivities to other legumes such as chickpeas or lentils.
-
Know and practice your action plan. Many epinephrine auto-injectors come with trainers that allow you to practice the correct technique, dosage, and injection site.
