St. Louis Mom’s Favorite Summer Reads

I love reading in the summer— escaping to a different world, looking at a life story with a different lens, or simply imagining I’m on vacation in a beautiful place.Summer is my favorite time to dive into a great juicy love story with a great twist.

Finding the perfect book to read can be so difficult.  Don’t worry, we are here to help. I pulled together the STL mom team to come up with a list of great summer reads for you.  Below you can check out a quick note about why a team member loved it and the book cover so you can search for it at your local bookstore or library. The titles shared below are listed in no particular order. We hope you enjoy our list!

Five Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand

This novel is set on Nantucket Island, and it is the perfect bit of drama and romance set in the perfect beach read setting. I love reading Elin Hilderbrand’s books every summer.

Happy Place by Emily Henry

The setting, coastal Maine, felt like a breath of fresh air. I loved that the love story was about both romantic love and also the friendship between college roommates. Emily Henry’s other novels also came highly recommended from multiple STL mom contributors!

My Oxford Year by Julie Whelan

This novel is a good and easy read.  Written so you can pick it up and don’t want to set it down. You can really feel the connection between the characters. Tear warning- this one may make you cry!

The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren

If you love a good love story, this book is for you. Attempting to create the perfect Hollywood romance, a filmmaker and author work together to boost their careers. Fun fact about the “author” Christina Lauren is actually two authors who are friends named Christina and Lauren. They write strong, funny characters.

Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks

This novel has a classic love story feel with an intense twist following two characters.  This story sucked me in, I had to know how it was going to end!

The Homewreckers: A Novel by Mary Kay Andrews

This story is such a cute story for anyone who loves a good house renovation show and a good love story. Don’t worry, there is a bit of a murder mystery element, too.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover books have been a hit amongst readers.  A STL mom contributor shares this is a great love story with a massive plot twist.  You’ll be on the edge of your seat!

Two former best friends go on a vacation together to see if they can reconcile their relationship and address an underlying mystery.

Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid

A 37-year-old tennis player comes out of retirement to reclaim her record.  The book tells a story about the cost of greatness and is a fabulous comeback story.

All the Days of Summer by Nancy Thayer

Set on the island of Nantucket, the novel follows Heather as she navigates family dynamics and creates the life she really wants.  This story was the perfect light read, with a good twist at the end!
