Make Foss Swim School your partner in water safety (and fun!)
We are a water-loving family, so gaining a love for water and developing water safety is very important to us. I enrolled my 18-month-old son in the learn-to-swim program at Foss Swim School this fall, and I couldn’t be happier with the decision to start him early with water exploration. Not only is he comfortable floating on his back and getting his head underwater, but he is already holding his breath while gliding under the water to me!
After our first round of infant lessons, here are the top 8 things I love about Foss Swim School:
- The water is WARM! This may seem like a no-brainer, but it seriously makes all the difference coming in during some cooler months and getting into a warm pool! It’s comfortable for both kids and adults!
- I’m creating sweet memories with my child. I’ll be honest, there are days I don’t feel like putting on my bathing suit for the parent-and-me infant class. But the water feels nice, it’s become routine, and I am always so happy to be there once I’m in the water. The joy on my boy’s face is everything – I wouldn’t want to miss this! I love that I get to be part of this journey with him.
- The group classes encourage early socialization. Every class starts and ends the same way, with a welcome to each person by name and a goodbye song at the end. My little guy has enjoyed interacting with the other kids in the class (and it’s also a great way to meet other moms with kids the same age)!
- It’s driven by music and songs! Many of the weekly activities we do are accompanied by fun songs! The kids love it, plus it gives a sense of predictability and routine.
- Every class gradually re-introduces the water. We always begin with getting water on the kids in a sequence: hands, belly, shoulders, cheeks, and then head. It’s a great way to ease into the water without “jumping right in” every time.
- Teaching a love of water is at the core! I was a swimmer from a young age, and I always wanted my kids to love water and develop safe and strong swimming skills. We have had no tears (besides not wanting to stop an activity), and he is loving every bit of it!
- Instructors are highly trained and great with kids. I’m honestly in awe of our instructor. She does such a wonderful job interacting with the kids, with the pacing of the class, and meeting each child where he or she is. She makes our classes so much fun, and also steps in to work with the kids one-on-one as they are comfortable.
- They offer progressive-level classes by quarters. This was new for me! I had done 4-week classes before, but a whole semester makes a HUGE difference. It helps the kids continue to build on their skills and get even more comfortable in the water. They move right into the next, just-right level class for them to progress in their skills!
I’m so glad we dove in with Foss Swim School, and highly recommend their programs! They have 4 locations to choose from in the St. Louis area: Ballwin, St. Charles, O’Fallon, and their newest Rock Hill location opening in January 2023!
Now is the perfect time to “jump in” to Foss Swim School to prepare the kids for summer swimming season! You will be glad you did.
