Join us for a film and QA session as we commemorate Dr. King’s birthday and honor the important role Coretta Scott King played in his life and the fight for civil rights. All ages.

 

MLK Celebration at the History Museum

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. throughout the holiday weekend. Families are invited to join us for youth activism workshops, meaningful conversations on race and social justice, storytelling, movement, and craft workshops.

8th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

During this celebration, we will recognize local unsung heroes and student scholars in our communities. Enjoy our special guest, Mr. Lou Brock, Jr.

Drum major awards are bestowed upon local heroes who have given their time, talents, treasure, and service in the name of justice, equity, and equality.

 

MLK Unity Gathering in Fountain Park and Centennial Christian Church

When: Saturday, January 18 – 19, 2025 

Location: 4950 Fountain Place, St. Louis, MO 63113

Cost: Free

The MLK Unity Gathering is on Saturday, January 18 at 9:30am at the MLK statue in Fountain Park. This year’s theme is a post presidential election call for healing and unity. The Unity Gathering will be followed by the Educational Institute at Centennial featuring educational presentations, a panel discussion and special arts performances.

 

2025 St. Louis Mid-County Martin Luther King Jr Celebration

Sponosred by Ameren UE and Normandy Schools Collaborative, the Annual Mid-County Martin Luther King Jr Celebrates honors the life and legacy of our civil & human rights hero – Rev. Martin Luther King.

This celebration is a shared vision between communities in the cities of Wellston and Pine Lawn that is now one of the largest MLK celebrations in our region. We invite you to attend our Prayer & Leadership Breakfast, Parade, and Program featuring speakers, music, and commUNITY resource table made available by our sponsors.

Annual Peace and Justice Mass

Join us for the 49th annual celebration of the Archdiocesan Mass for the Preservation of Peace and Justice on the holiday weekend commemorating the birth and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

 

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at the St. Louis Art Museum

A historical-fiction, musical theater presentation by Infecting Change Theatre Company will be performed in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. After the performance, there will be a conversation and Q&A with playwright J.P. Haynes, cast members, and political strategist and organizer Jamala Rogers. The discussion will be moderated by Kathryn Bentley, the program’s creative director.
 
Although the event is free, advance tickets are recommended.

38th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration

The 38th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration honors the legacy of Dr. King and the impact he has made on those who carry the torch for humanity. The theme of the Commemoration is “Responsibility” and is based on the quote: “Ultimately individual responsibility lies not in the external situation but in the internal response.” The Commemoration will occur on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in Graham Chapel on the Washington University Danforth Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Small Hands, Big Difference – Social Action Day will celebrate the work, vision, and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the work of leaders who have changed the world.

Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra

Join musicians of the SLSO and voices from The Sheldon’s All-Star Chorus and the UMSL’s Voices of Jubilee gospel choir at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observation at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. This year’s theme is the “Beloved Community,” a place where all can thrive. Fredricka Newton, activist and founder/CEO of the Huey P. Newton Foundation, will be delivering the keynote address.  
 
This is a free event. No tickets or RSVPs are needed.

Join us as we celebrate 2025 MLK Jr. Week at WashU Medicine. We invite all members of our community to participate and reflect on ways to further Dr. King’s vision of justice and equality in our daily lives.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this year’s program features opportunities to engage with impactful discussions, thought-provoking exhibits, and inspiring speakers, all centered around themes of equity, inclusion, and social justice. From the kickoff of our book and film club to the commemoration of the Desegregation History exhibit and updates on our DEI initiatives, there’s something for everyone. Highlighting the week, Dr. Kemi Doll will deliver a keynote as part of the Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series.

 

We Can All Serve: MLK Food Drive

When: Ongoing until Friday, January 31, 2025

Where: All St. Louis Public Library locations

Where: In support of the St. Louis Area Foodbank – donation bins at all St. Louis (City) Public Library Branches.

The holidays may be over but hunger is still an epidemic among our neighbors, friends, and family struggling to buy necessities such as heat and warm winter clothes. In the spirit and memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., St. Louis Public Library is proud to launch a food drive in his honor.

Lauren Cappell
Lauren lives in Kirkwood with her husband, Eric and their two daughters Claire (5) and Frances (3). Both she and her husband are transplants, Lauren originally from San Diego and her husband, Charleston, SC. They’ve called St. Louis their home since 2013. Lauren taught both first and third grade for 10 years before becoming a full time stay at home mom. Moving to a new city without friends or family forced her to get outside her comfort zone and establish friendships and discover all that St. Louis has to offer families (you can find her sharing her adventures on her Instagram account @littleloupstl). She understands the immense value of community which is what brought her to St. Louis Mom.
