As moms, we’re usually the ones playing photographer, capturing everyone else’s moments. But let’s be honest—when was the last time you got in front of the camera with your family? I know it’s an investment, but one of my BIGGEST regrets is not getting maternity pictures done with either of my pregnancies. Why? In the moment, I thought, “Oh, I won’t want to see my big belly all over the place.” Well, dang, was I wrong. It’s all I think about now when I reflect on my pregnancies … no photos to show!
Now, let’s talk outfits. My secret? I always start with what I’m wearing first. Yes, you heard me—pick yours first. I choose something that makes me feel confident and comfortable—a fit that I know is always flattering, which for me is usually something covering part of my arms and a longer dress with a slit. Then, I build the rest of the family’s outfits around mine. Think coordinating, not matching. Soft, neutral tones are always a win, but I did coral with blue this past summer for our pictures and used coral for one of my boys and blue with coral for the other. My husband is usually last-minute, but he typically always has something on hand. A few of my favorite affordable-ish stores for dresses are Impressions Boutique, Baltic Born, and Abercrombie.
Yes, it’s going to be chaotic, but it’s so worth it. Our first family session on the beach? It was so windy we all got blown over, hair and makeup all messed up right when we walked out the door. We got to the beach, and the boys kept getting pelted by sand. But those pictures are some of my favorites of them! So make the investment. Because trust me, those moments are absolutely worth it.
Enjoy a few of our pics from over the years!
