Here’s to the Good From 2024

0

I know it’s January now, the month that’s all about fresh starts and resolutions. We’re going to learn something new, do things differently, make things better. But I want to pause for a moment and reflect on what I learned in 2024 … knowledge that is worthy of carrying over into 2025.

  • I discovered Aldi’s “Birria” frozen chuck roast, and it’s been a game changer for my recipe rotation (and so easy!)
  • I started using oat milk in my morning coffee and definitely prefer it now over other milks.
  • Read the first two books of the Fourth Wing series and it’s been a recent favorite! Fantasy with dragons and a touch of spice and the final book of the series comes out THIS MONTH!
  • I discovered two awesome local tattoo artists … Gina works out of Cousin Paul’s Tattoo, and Maddy is at St. Louis Tattoo Company.
  • I learned (the hard way) that you should never wait to buy tickets to those pop-up holiday bars (not just the Christmas ones) because they often do sell out.
  • I acquired some new skills: making sourdough thanks to a class at Whistle Stop 301, and hand-crocheted a chunky blanket at Crystal Worthy Art.

Some of my friends also shared with me what they’re keeping around for 2025!

  • Advocate for your own health. Always get a 2nd or third opinion. Keep talking until someone listens- and you feel like you’re being listened to. (Jennedy)
  • Speak up for yourself and your kids and get help when you need it. Don’t be ashamed or afraid to do so. (Christina)
  • Need a new game for Game Night? Check out Chameleon, Hitster, Blank Slate, and Incohearant. (Carol)
  • The most adorable little desk vacuum (Sarah)
  • The Libby app for borrowing books (Dawn)

What about you? Anything you feel like other St. Louis Moms need to know? A life hack, a favorite find on Amazon, an awesome local product or business you discovered this year, a yummy new recipe, or something you learned from a new parenting milestone this past year … we would love it if you’d share by commenting below!

Maddie is a fulltime single mom to a biracial and bicultural daughter. When she's not busy surviving her daughter's tween years, you can find her reading. This proud book nerd's other favorites include: coffee, Harry Potter, Spanish, fighting the patriarchy, scuba diving, skincare, tacos, and always advocating for inclusion. Definitely an introvert, she has way too many pets, and no longer allows herself to look at the social media accounts for Stray Rescue or the Humane Society. A former educator, Maddie is now grateful to work from home as an analyst. Maddie is also a childhood AML Leukemia survivor, and has been battling Papillary Thyroid Cancer since she was 19 (without divulging her age, let's just say it's been way too long lol). She's spent most of her entire life in the St. Louis area - some of her favorite things about the city are: STL sports teams, the Zoo, the cat cafés, Novel Neighbor, and Imo's pizza (Provel cheese is still real cheese in her heart)!
