October Fun in the Lou

0

October is my favorite month in Saint Louis.  I love the colorful autumn leaves and pumpkins everywhere.  I love taking my kids to festivals, pumpkin farms, and apple picking.  I look forward to a chill in the air and the smell of outdoor fire pits.  This October is the first year I have three (fairly) mobile children and I want to get out and do as much as possible.  Here are several things going on in and around the Lou that I am definitely going to check out this year, and you should, too!

The Saint Louis Wheel: The newly renovated Union Station and the new Saint Louis Wheel opened September 30th.  I’ve already taken my kids and they had a blast riding the Wheel, playing mini golf,  and drinking floats from The Soda Fountain. I am thrilled to see Union Station become a vibrant destination for families again. https://www.stlouisunionstation.com/125th-anniversary

Apple Picking at Eckert’s Country Store and Farm: October is a great month at Eckert’s for apple picking, hayrides, and pick-your-own pumpkins. There are three locations just across the river in Belleville, Millstadt, and Grafton, Illinois. https://www.eckerts.com/belleville-farm

Pumpkin Patches: There are so many great pumpkin patches in St. Louis. My kids love Pumpkinland at Theis Farms, our October tradition.  They love it so much, we usually have to go at least twice.  From rope zip lines to corn mazes and a gunny sac slide, we spend hours there.  Check out this link for a list of pumpkin patches open this season in and around St Louis: https://fun4stlkids.com/Whats-Happening/Pumpkin-Patches/

Fest at Grant’s Farm : Every weekend in October Grant’s Farm offers a daytime Fall festival from 9:30am to 5pm.  Kids can decorate pumpkins and play games in a pumpkin patch.  Admission is free.  During select dates in October Grant’s Farm will also be the place for Halloween Nights, a costume party, from 5:30pm to 10pm.  https://www.grantsfarm.com/plan-your-visit/upcoming-events.html

Brew in the Lou: October 12. Get out and enjoy local beer, wine and food.  While mostly aimed at adults, this event is kid and pet friendly in beautiful Francis Park near the playground.  https://explorestlouis.com/event/7th-annual-brew-in-the-lou/

Harvest Festival in Tower Grove: Sunday October 13. I am looking forward to checking out this St Louis festival and enjoying music, food, fresh farmer’s market produce and art in my favorite neighborhood! http://harvestfeststl.com/

Boo at the Zoo: October 15-30. This is a non-scary Halloween event presented by Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital at the St. Louis Zoo. Kids are encouraged to come in costume.  Admission includes carousel rides and admission to the 4D theatre.

Halloween Family Day at the Contemporary Art Museum: October 26. This is a free event especially great for the art loving kid.  Come in costume and enjoy face painting, crafts, games, dancing and tours especially designed for children.  Register at: https://camstl.org/programs/youth-families/family-days/

Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival: October 26-27. This is a sweet Fall festival in the charming town of Kimmswick, Missouri.  For children they will have a miniature train, petting zoo and pony rides. https://gokimmswick.com/apple-butter-festival-kimmswick/

Happy Fall, Moms!
