Family dinners at a restaurant can often be a dreaded activity for parents. After our {very busy} son was born we felt the pull to continue to take the opportunity to dine out. We enjoy the chance to be served as we can sit and talk and enjoy food and drink. Although we still wanted to continue dining out we quickly learned that it had to look different in order to be even a slightly enjoyable experience. We started taking our son out during his dinner time which magically fell during Happy Hour and thus our family happy hours began.
Happy Hour as a family is the best thing going on in dinners out for several reasons.
1. Happy Hour is earlier in the evening so it falls during the kids normal dinner time while avoiding long waits for tables and food and the overstimulation of a crowded restaurant.
2. Happy Hour means deals which also means you will not be paying top dollar for a meal that may or may not {Often the case} actually be an enjoyable experience.
3. Happy Hour falls during those hours of the day that can be difficult to fill (especially during the winter months) and provides an opportunity to get out of the house and feed the family.
In our love for Happy Hours we have learned some of our favorite spots to enjoy as a family. Not every Happy Hour is family friendly but we have found this list of places that provide family friendly food and atmosphere.

When I say we are going to Happy Hour as a family I’m often met with, “You take your kids to Happy Hour?” We sure do. Happy Hour to us is not a boozy fest with co workers after a long day of work, it is a cheaper and quieter way for us to enjoy a meal as a family that everyone can go home happy about. Have you found any great Happy Hours around or still blown away by the idea that you can go to Happy Hour with your small children?
What a great idea! I have never taken advantage of happy hours with kids but I am going to now! Love that you listed your favorite places as it gives us ideas of where to start! My kids are a bit older so instead of toddler tantrums, it’s often sibling bickering. But getting deals on food (and maybe a much needed drink for mom) I won’t feel as bad about packing up the food to go as I mutter under my breath that I’ll never take my kids out in public again. Great article!
