Holiday Children’s Books: Festive Stories to Read with Your Kids

I have a problem with books, especially children’s books, and holidays seem to be a great excuse to find some new treasured stories! I have magical visions of curling up with the kids, drinking hot chocolate, and reading Christmas stories during the holidays. It usually turns into me trying to read a story while the boys fight over a lego creation, but such is life. Here are some of the ones we are loving this year:

All The Colors Of Christmas” by Matthew Paul Turner. This story is so beautifully illustrated and is a great book for littles. The story takes you through all of the colors and how we see them during the Christmas season. Another reason I adore this storybook is that it includes lots of children of color in the illustrations and children with differing abilities.

How To Catch An Elf” by Adam Wallace is part of his “How To Catch” series featuring all kinds of friends like monsters and leprechauns throughout the year. This is a wonderful, silly, and fun book for the holiday season!

Bear Stays Up For Christmas” by Karma Wilson. If you haven’t met Wilson’s beloved Bear from her other stories, such as “Bear Snores On” and the “Bear Gives Thanks,” you need to catch up. My boys love checking in with Bear and his beloved little forest friends as each holiday rolls along.

Refuge” by Anne Booth. “Refuge” is a beautifully poetic story depicting Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus as refugees seeking safety while fleeing King Harold. This is a wonderful short story to read with slightly older children that may open up a conversation about the current refugees in the world trying to find a home and safety.

What children’s books are you and your family reading that I can add to my list?
