Dear Bestie (on National Women’s Friendship Day)

Dear Bestie,

I am sending this note to tell you how much I appreciate you. Thank you for being my best friend.

Your friendship is important to me. We can talk for hours about life, everything, and nothing all at once. I remember the conversations where we never ran out of things to say. Our time together always runs out before the words we want to share with each other do.

We’ve been by each other’s side for our babies’ births, parents’ deaths, and a whole lot of memories. Happy tears, sad tears, hugs, and heartaches – together we faced them. Yes, our spouses were there, too, but sharing everything with a best friend just hits differently.

Thank you for listening to my problems and helping me make decisions. I value your thoughts and wisdom. Above all, thank you for just being there.

Even though a move separated our near-daily connection, you are still there for me. A letter in the mail from you brightens my day. There’s always so much to catch up on.

We are both busier than we care to be. Yet I know you would drop everything and be by my side in an instant. In different cities with different jobs yet we are both still busy moms trying to make it through the day.

I think of you often and should be better at sending a text on more than just birthdays and holidays. The back and forth of liked posts on social media is somehow all we can manage in our current season of life.

I look forward to our golden years, where the retired versions of ourselves will surely have more time than we do now.

Please know that you are my best friend. I will always be there for you, too.
